The Game

And he proceeded to tell me the story of how a number of the proper people are attracted to the proper place in the proper year on a night in the lonesome October when the moon shines full on Halloween and the way may be opened for the return of the Elder Gods to Earth, and of how some of these people would assist in the opening of the way for them while others would strive to keep the way closed. For ages, the closers have won – often just barely […] And the people would acquire certain tools and other objects of power, meet together at the designated spot and attempt to work their wills. The winners walked away, the losers suffered for their presumption by a reaction from the cosmic principals involved in the attempt.

"Night in the Lonesome October" is a LARP based on the Roger Zelazny book of the same name. Players take on the personas of openers and closers and struggle against each other to stop the end of the world… or bring it about!

Ettiquette

Players in the game generally speaking treat each other with courtesy and respect, regardless of goal. One never knows when ones kind words can sway and enemy to a friend.

"Unwritten Rules"

yes, I see the irony in this section

Treat each other with courtesy and decorum
Do interfere with another’s gathering of ingredients
Do not draw outside attention to the game and its players
several more, I’m sure. Feel free to add to this list

Violence

The adage “violence never solved anything” is doubly true this October. Attack another player early in the month and you may just be taking out an ally. As the month progresses, and the comic forces pay more attention, the laws of unintended consequences becomes a strong enough deterrent in itself

Violence Against Familiars

Familiars play an integral role in information gathering and protection, as such the loss of a familiar can badly cripple a player. However, players do not target other player’s familiars, doing so opens up their familiars to attacks by all other. The only exception to this is, if an familiar is caught in another residence, that player can deal with it without consequence.

Violence between familiars, however, is very common. Although here too, murder is frowned upon.

Heard from Greymalk later that Nightwind had seized Quicklime and bourne him far out over the Thames and dropped him in.
